The Department of Czech for Foreigners offers year‑long language and professional preparation for studies under an accredited university study programme pursuant to section 64, letter b) of Act No. 326/1999 Coll. on the Residence of Foreign Nationals in the Czech Republic.
The language and professional preparation is intended for beginners, pre‑intermediate, intermediate, advanced and very advanced (A0 to C2 according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Year‑long language preparation consists of two semesters plus an inter‑semester course.

The autumn semester lasts 13 to 17 weeks, from September to January.
The winter couse lasts 2 weeks, from January to February.
The spring semester lasts 13 to 17 weeks, from February to June.

Within the given academic year, it is not possible to attend the year‑long language and professional preparation in a different period than the one mentioned above.

Price
The total price of the year‑long language preparation is made up of the price of the autumn semester, price of the winter course and price of the spring semester. Price for individual partial terms depends on chosen amount of academic hours.

The autumn semester offers two options (20 or 15 academic hours per week).
The winter course has only one variant (50 academic hours).
The spring semester offers three options (25, 20 or 15 academic hours per week).

Price of the year‑long language preparation must be transferred to the following account kept in CZK.

Letter of Acceptance
Letter of Acceptance to the year‑long language preparation will be issued after the full course fee (total price) is identified on the above-mentioned account.
Cancellation conditions
Switching to online tuition in the case of an unfavorable epidemiological situation or lasting governmental and university restrictions as well as within the duration of the visa process does not establish the right to a refund of tuition fees.
Applicants will be refunded 75 % of the school‑fee if they cancel their participation in the Czech course before the date of its beginning. Applicants who require a visa and who are denied one need to send us confirmation that their visa was denied. The money will be returned by bank transfer only.
Participants who, for any reason, cancel their participation in the Czech course after the date of its beginning are not entitled to a refund of the school‑fee paid.
Participants who stop attending classes are not entitled to a refund of the school‑fee paid.
Professional part of the preparation
The professional part of the year‑long language and professional preparation for studies under an accredited university study programme takes place in the spring semester of the given academic year, when the participant chooses from the selection of preparatory courses for entrance exams on the basis of their chosen university study programme.
Accommodation
If you request accommodation in Masaryk University halls of residence, Confirmation of Accommodation will be issued for visa purposes for the duration of the language and professional preparation. The price of the accommodation is around 6 500 CZK per month and is paid monthly from arrival at the dormitory.
Assessment
Individual partial terms will conclude with a final written exam in grammar, orthography, Czech life and history, lexical-stylistic exercises, conversation (essay) and an oral examination in conversation, phonetics and interpretation of a literary text (advanced students), depending on the level of study.
A certificate with ECTS credits and classification of the level of knowledge of the Czech language according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages will be issued based on the results of the final exams.
Attendance
Participants of courses of Czech for foreigners must have 75% active class attendance to be allowed to take the final exams. Late arrival to in-person classes or joining an online class late also counts as an absence. Only absence due to illness (backed up by a medical confirmation) does not count.
Participants of courses of Czech for foreigners who applied for a residence visa based on the Letter of Acceptance issued by the Department of Czech for Foreigners are required to fulfil their study obligations, start and regularly attend classes (in-person classes as well as online classes). If they fail to do so, the Department of Czech for Foreigners is obliged to immediately notify the Department of Asylum and Migration Policy of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic (Foreign Police of the Czech Republic) of their failure to fulfil visa requirements.

Organization
Classes for total beginners are taught based on English.
The language level achieved after completing the year-long language preparation depends on the diligence and effort of the participant.
From the language level A2, participants can choose from a range of elective courses in Czech language and literature at the beginning of the autumn and spring semester. For participants in the year-long language preparation these courses are FREE.
The year‑long language preparation can be completed with the Czech Language Certificate Exam (CCE) which is recognized by selected Czech universities. The CCE exam is intended for foreigners who want or need to verify the degree of their communication competence in Czech.
Visa
If the visa process is not over before the beginning of the course, the tuition will switch to online classes, if possible. If the visa is granted, the tuition will switch to in-person/face to face classes after arrival to Brno. If the visa is not granted, the tuition continues online.
